Singapore Passport Validity: The 6-Month Travel Rule to Check Before You Fly

Before booking a last-minute trip, check the expiry date on your passport. Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority advises Singapore citizens travelling overseas to make sure their passport is valid for at least six months before departure.

Why six months matters

Many destinations impose their own minimum passport-validity rules. A passport can still be legally valid but fail a destination's entry requirement if it expires too soon.

Also check your destination's visa rules

ICA advises travellers to confirm whether a visa is required for the destination. Entry requirements can change, so use official immigration or foreign-ministry information rather than relying on an old travel post.

Returning to Singapore is different

ICA notes that Singapore passports with less than six months' validity can still be accepted for arrival clearance when a Singapore citizen is returning home. That does not remove the need to meet the destination country's rules before departure.

A simple pre-trip checklist

• Passport has at least six months' validity before departure.
• Destination visa or entry authorisation is confirmed.
• Passport is undamaged and personal particulars are correct.
• Travel itinerary and emergency contacts are saved somewhere accessible.
